"Hey Bartender, A Tall Glass of Water Please!"

Two weeks ago today I married my best friend.
look at us, aren't we adorable?
We have been riding high on post marital bliss. We indulged in good booze and fine dining as any happy couple would.

Without getting too graphic I noticed that my stomach had been feeling sensitive and in order to alleviate some of those discomforts I kept popping Tums and taking swigs of the pink stuff to soothe it. It provided temporary ease but I had to stop pretending that I didn't bring this on myself. My complexion looked dull and even saw some dry spots. Overall, I was not happy with way I felt from the inside out. - Oh, don't get me started on the whole bloating thing.

As I sat here beating myself up over my lack of better judgement, I had a moment and realized I hadn't been drinking much water in days, perhaps weeks. *puts head down in shame* So I immediately began gulping glasses of it and rediscovering all of its benefits.

It has been a few days and I already feel the difference in my body. Maybe it's all in my mind but HEY that's a great place to start!

How about some reminders of why water is so important?

1) Lack of water can lead to dehydration, dehydration can make your skin look dull, dry and wrinkled which can be improved with proper hydration. Think of water as nature's beauty elixir. Drinking water hydrates skin cells and plumps them up, making your face look younger. It also flushes out impurities and improves circulation and blood flow, helping your skin glow. Now that is truly a reason to drink up!

2) Replace calorie-filled beverages with water, and drink a glass before meals to help you feel fuller. Drinking more water helps rev up metabolism particularly if your glass is icy cold. Your body must work to warm the water up, burning a few extra calories in the process.

3) Did you know that about 70% to 80% of your brain tissue is water? The moment you are dehydrated your mind and body are stressed. When parched your brain has more difficulty keeping your attention focused. Dehydration can impair short-term memory function and the recall of long-term memory. Drinking water can help these stress levels down.

4) As I recently rediscovered, water is fantastic for your digestive system! Water helps dissolve waste particles and passes them smoothly through your digestive tract. If you're dehydrated, your body absorbs all the water, leaving your colon dry and making it more difficult to pass waste. (Been there, done that it was not fun!)

So friends, don't underestimate the wonderful effects of water. Find water boring on its own? Squeeze some fresh lemon juice in it, add some ginger, throw in some fresh berries, cucumbers, herbs (I love mint leaves!) Get creative and create your own infused water. It sure beats most of the stuff that's sold at stores.
